Entry requirement
ABP does not specify the entry requirements of their qualifications but has confidence in centres to recruit students that have the potential to achieve the standards required of the qualification. ABP expect us to recruit with integrity and consistency to ensure fairness of access & ability to all students.
Students do not need to progress sequentially through the levels. Therefore a candidate who has achieved a level 5 qualification may be able to achieve the academic rigour and complexity, required of Level 7 Postgraduate Diplomas accessed through ABP.
Assessment
Assessment is encouraged throughout the programme utilising variable and creative assessment tools with minimal reliance on formal examinations.

NVQ IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE (ADULTS) - Level 4

Qualification Aim:
This qualification aims to provide recognition and accreditation for those working in the health and social care sector whose roles involve the provision of care and support to adults in a range of contexts. This includes both within protected environments such as private care homes as well as in individual’s own houses.
Course Structure
To achieve the qualification, students need to successfully complete 4 mandatory units and 4 optional units. To successfully complete a unit, each candidate has to provide evidence satisfying all of the standards (performance and knowledge requirements) in that unit.
Rules for combinations of units apply.
Mandatory units:
- Unit 01: Use and develop methods and systems to communicate record and report
- Unit 02: Contribute to the development and maintenance of healthy and safe practices in the working environment
- Unit 03: Take responsibility for the continuing professional development of self and others
- Unit 04: Develop practices which promote choice, well-being and protection of all individuals
Optional units:

Entry requirements:
- Candidates must to be at least 18 years old.

Assessment information
This qualification is a work based award and candidates' skills and knowledge are assessed in the workplace whilst they are working directly with individuals and colleagues. They must be working in a real health or social care setting on a full or part time basis and in paid or voluntary work.
This qualification is internally assessed and externally moderated.
Each candidate is required to create a portfolio of evidence which shows that they have met the standards associated with each unit.
Progression opportunities
Candidates who achieve this qualification could progress to:
- complting professional or post-graduate study in the same or related areas
- Those completing this NVQ may also be able to move into senior positions of the nursing profession.

OR - Have relevant occupational experience.
