The primary objective of the Council's founding members was “to improve and enhance the standards of independent further and higher educational institutions by the establishment of a system of accreditation”.

Study UK works alongside English UK, its natural "sister" membership body for the English language teaching industry. Both organisations share a brand and logo design already associated with "quality UK education" and English UK's Chairman, Tony Millns, is the Secretary of Study UK.
